Dance Contest Rules

1.


Register only in one category; All dancers be ready for Grand Entry Session at Noon & 7pm SHARP.

2.



Any dancer observed leaving the dance area before flags are posted will not receive points for grand entry. If you are a singer please notify Head Dance Judge;

3.

Ensure your number is visible at all times;

4.


Should any part of your regalia disassemble during your contest, there will be point deductions;

5.


Anyone found providing false information will be disqualified from the dance competitions (ie; age);

6.


Anyone found under the influence of  drugs and/or alcohol will be disqualified from the dance competitions;

7.


Any concerns regarding dance competition must be directed to the Head Dance Judge,

8.

Golden Age Category is combined;

9.

No pacing during inter-tribals;

10.

There will be secret spot dancing;

11.


If you are the only one in your category you will not necessarily be awarded 1st.  Your own performance will determine your place;

12.

Points will be given for both Grand Entry & Exhibition dancing;


Drum Contest Rules

All drums (singers) must adhere to the following:

1.



Must have a minimum of 4 singers per drum to register and be present when it is your turn to sing. Drum roll call will be 20 minutes before grand entry, 11:40 am

2.



If any singer is dancing they can be excused for their particular contest. It is your responsibility to bring this to the judges’ attention before you begin the song.

3.

There will be absolutely no drum hopping.

4.

Manipulation of voice box will be deducted 2 points , (i.e No pinching)

5.



Intertribal and competition songs will follow drum rotation. Each drum will have one minute from the time the Master of Ceremonies announces your drum in rotation.

6.


Absolutely no drugs or alcohol will be tolerated. Complete disqualification of drum will be the penalty, under the discretion of the Head Drum Judge.

7.


A minimum of two singers must be at the drum at all times.


8.


Any singers observed rushing to their drum prior to contest, 1 point will be deducted.

9.


Drums will only be judged on intertribal and contest songs (not honor or special songs).

10.


Judges may ask what a song means and where the song originates, which means singers must know.

11.


Drum Etiquette will be taken into consideration, clean up after each session.

12.


Drums will be judged by dancer response to song and how the song is sung.

13.

Full participation should be recognizable.

14.

Pow Wow protocol must be adhered to.


Women's Back Up Singing Special Rules

1.

Must register by 2:00 p.m. Saturday;

2.

Minimum One, Maximum Three Registered Singers per group.

3.

All singers must follow a dress code (be creative, ladies!)

4.


All singers will have 10 minutes to convene before their contest songs, this time will also be used to address any questions;

5.


Any singer suspected of alcohol or drug intake will be immediately disqualified.

6.



You will have a two-round contest. First-round song will be a straight song, second-round song will be a song with words, and (solo will be awarded bonus points!).

7.


In the event of a tie women will be given the opportunity to sing their favorite Pow Wow song.


Children's Traditional & Contemporary Dance Special (6-12) Rules

1.

Must register by 2:00 p.m. Saturday;

2.


Must be prepared to dance first round traditional and second round contemporary dance style in two separate regalia’s;

3.


During each round your regalia (i.e. neon shouldn’t be on your traditional regalia) must reflect the dance style;

4.

Must identify category style for each round at registration time;


Hand Drum Special Rules

1.

All singers must register by 2:00 p.m. Saturday;

2.

All singers that have registered must be present;

3.

Must be a round dance or side step song;

4.


Minimum two singers (and one female backup singer) per group registration

5.

Maximum four singers per group registration.

6.

You will be allowed one female backup singer per group.

7.

All songs will be four times through.

8.

You will be judged on your stick work, singing clarity, and each singer must lead


Iron Man/Woman Rules

1.

Must register by 2:00 p.m. Saturday;

2.


You will be tapped for elimination should you not be keeping your tempo with the song;

3.

No disqualification for any regalia that may dissemble;
